OMG this stuff is delicious! Dark and rich and SUGAR FREE! It’s high in antioxidants and a great source of healthy fats. If you are in competition prep this would be considered a fat source so just mind your portions.
Look for 100% dark chocolate with nothing else added. I like this one. If you can’t find it you can use 99% dark chocolate or even lower but remember the lower the % the more sugar is added and the calorie/macro profile is slightly different.
- one bar of 100% dark chocolate (100g)
- 1/2 tsp of raw powdered stevia (optional but adds some sweetness)
- 1/4 tsp cayenne
- 1 tsp sliced almonds
- 1 tsp cacao nibs
- 1/2 tsp sea salt flakes (or regular sea salt)
Fill a small pot with about 1/2 cup of water. Top with a small glass bowl and bring to a boil ( this creates a Bain-marie). Break up chocolate into about 4-5 pieces and add to your glass bowl. Melt the chocolate in your glass bowl stiring often.
Once the chocolate is melted stir in stevia and cayenne. Poor your melted chocolate onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread the chocolate out very thin (about 1/8 of an inch in thickness). Then sprinkle with sea salt flakes, almonds and cacaco nibs. Place in the freezer or fridge until hardened. Break it up into small pieces and store in an air tight container in the fridge or freezer.
You can also get creative and change the ingredients like try adding goji berries or coconut. Yummmmm
Also check out my recipe for healthy raw chocolates made with coconut oil and raw cacao powder. They are a bit softer and can be made sweeter if you like and easy to digest.
